A CLOSER LOOK

Discover Saddell Abbey

The remains of a Cistercian abbey and a collection of medieval carved stones.

What to expect

The ruined Cistercian abbey is particularly worth visiting for its carved medieval grave slabs. The surviving stones reveal a different kind of history from the nearby beach and estate: religious life, burial and the craftsmanship of the west Highlands.

Planning your visit

Treat the site as a burial place as well as a historic monument. Stay on appropriate paths and avoid touching or climbing carved stones. The abbey and Saddell Bay can form two distinct stops, but neither should be taken as confirmation that neighbouring holiday buildings are open to visitors.
