A CLOSER LOOK
Discover Dark Skies Theatre
An outdoor stargazing site in northern Gigha, with benches and information to help you explore the night sky. This is a designated Dark Sky Discovery Site and is of Milky Way class, which means skies are very dark and unhindered views of stars, planets, the Milky Way and other astronomical features are possible. As well as community stargazing and astronomy events, Dark Skies Gigha offers bookable daytime sky-walks, star-bathing sessions and moon-watching experiences for groups of 6 or more.
What to expect
The north of Gigha has a Dark Sky Discovery site with interpretation and seating. The charity Dark Skies Gigha also offers organised walks, talks or workshops on advertised dates. These are also privately bookable for groups of 6 or more. It introduces a different side of the island after dark, when a clear sky and sufficient darkness coincide.
Planning your visit
Check event dates and booking separately from visiting the outdoor site. Cloud, moonlight and the season affect what can be seen; stars or aurora cannot be guaranteed. Consider an overnight stay rather than assuming a late ferry home, and prepare for an unlit outdoor setting on uneven ground.
