A CLOSER LOOK

Discover Skipness Castle & Chapel

A medieval castle and shoreside chapel, with some of Scotland’s earliest surviving castle buildings.

What to expect

The castle preserves layers of medieval building associated with the MacSweens and later owners. The nearby chapel adds a second part to the visit, with both buildings set close to the coast. Looking at them together gives a fuller impression of the settlement than a quick exterior photograph.

Planning your visit

Use Historic Environment Scotland's current visitor information for opening and access restrictions. Do not assume that the tower or every part of the ruins is open. Wear shoes suitable for uneven ground. Food at the nearby Seafood Cabin is seasonal and operates independently of the monument.
