A CLOSER LOOK

Discover Mull of Kintyre Lighthouse

A remote lighthouse reached by a steep walk from the end of the public road.

What to expect

The lighthouse dates from 1788 and stands below the end of the public road. The usual outing follows a steep tarmac track down towards it, with the uphill return forming a substantial part of the walk. Coastal views depend heavily on the weather.

Planning your visit

Walkhighlands describes a roughly 4 km return route taking about 1½–2 hours, with significant ascent on the way back. These are walking-guide estimates, not a short roadside stop. Check weather and road conditions, wear suitable shoes and do not assume the lighthouse interior is open to visitors.
