A CLOSER LOOK

Discover Davaar Island

A tidal island at the mouth of Campbeltown Loch, with a lighthouse and a cave painting.

The island lighthouse dates from 1854.

What to expect

Davaar's tidal crossing leads to a working island landscape with grazing animals, a lighthouse and the cave painting created by Archibald MacKinnon in 1887. Reaching the cave involves rough coastal ground; it is more than a straightforward stroll along the causeway.

Planning your visit

Use the estate's current tide and crossing advice to plan both directions before stepping onto the Dhorlin. Do not treat low-tide time alone as a safe crossing window. Keep dogs under close control around livestock, carry what you need and allow for the return walk. There are no visitor shops on the island.
